Ok friends. Let’s talk anxiety. I am fairly transparent about my struggles. I don’t hide it. But, anxiety plays a huge role in my life. It’s something I struggle with every single day. Some days it’s a minor thing. Other days it can takeover my entire day.
I don’t always know what causes my anxiety, so that can make it difficult to ease the feeling and/or worry. My mind will just run through anything and everything that could possibly go wrong and it makes it worse.
Now, I’m obviously not a professional, but there are a few things I do that helps with the anxiety a little bit.
Snuggle my dogs
Read a book
Take a walk
Meditation (I really want to buy the subscription for Calm, because I’ve heard so many good things about it, but it’s not in my budget at the moment)
Talking it out with a friend
Stress & Anxiety chews (I wouldn’t really consider this a medication)
These are all very basic things, but together they definitely help me calm the anxiety. Though, it doesn’t fully go away. I can still feel the anxiety regardless. It definitely affects (or is it effects? I honestly do not know when to use which one. I don’t think I’ll ever know) my daily life. Sometimes I don’t want to leave the house. Many times I cancel plans with people. I’ve called off work for mental health days. Going new places or meeting up with friends alone always makes me anxious. Being away from my house or sometimes even being at my house makes me anxious. It can literally be anything.
I don’t think a lot of people understand how much anxiety can control your life. It’s not a physical disease and can be very difficult to explain to someone that doesn’t suffer from it. I know I’ve unintentionally pushed people out of my life because they don’t understand my needs (for example, the need to cancel plans last minute because I just cannot go through with it).
